In the heart of Wimbledon Village

We were commissioned to create this great garden right in the heart of Wimbledon Village with a view to being on site within weeks. Starting in the winter with a complicated build and limited access we were able to complete the garden alongside a major refurbishment of the home that included incorporating a new extension of land within the garden, changing levels for a new pool, sunken terrace and new secret woodland garden.

The main family entertaining space starts as a terrace across the rear of the house but by clever use of level changes and steps we have created a sunken lounge space with its own open fireplace for cosy times when the evenings are cooler. As well as a large table and chairs for entertaining we designed an outdoor kitchen space that took its inspiration from planters and house details for colour and materials. This upper garden is shielded from neighbours with clever use of informal shaped trees that will look after themselves rather than need annual pruning.

This is a year-round garden with a new heated counter-current swimming pool and all year-round planting interest. We have incorporated a large formal lawn to the upper garden and then created a secret woodland glade in a lower garden surrounded by new trees and shrubs to give privacy, peace and calm. To enjoy this woodland even more we designed a rocking bed with roof and it’s own copper firepit for losing yourself amongst exotic tree ferns and foliage.
